Redundancy & Restructuring Case Study: Supporting Employees Through a Difficult Transition
Updated: 3 days ago
Redundancy is not only a legal and procedural process. It is also a significant personal transition for the employees affected. In a recent organisational change project, I supported an employer through a complex redundancy programme while making sure employees received clear documentation, accurate information and practical help for what came next.
The challenge
The organisation needed to implement a significant restructure following a transfer of employees. The process involved consultation, selection, role outcomes and redundancies, with employees having different lengths of service, notice periods and contractual arrangements. The business needed a process that was consistent, evidence-led and understandable to employees.
What I delivered
I prepared individual outcome and redundancy letters that explained the basis for the decision, the consultation and assessment process, notice arrangements, redundancy payments and next steps. Where relevant, the documentation also set out the employee's continuous service, notice period and the basis on which statutory and contractual payments were calculated.
I also created a practical handbook for employees facing redundancy so that they had something useful to take away from the process. Rather than stopping at the outcome letter, I offered CV-writing support, interview preparation, job-search assistance and one-to-one conversations to help affected employees think through their next move.
I looked for suitable opportunities, supported employees with applications and interview preparation, and remained available to talk through concerns and practical questions. This helped make the process more humane while still giving the organisation the structure and documentation it needed.
The outcome
The redundancy programme was delivered with a clear audit trail, detailed employee communications and consistent outcome documentation. Employees received both the formal information they needed and practical transition support beyond the minimum process requirements.
What this demonstrates
This case demonstrates hands-on redundancy and restructuring support, consultation and outcome management, detailed redundancy documentation, payment and notice communication, employee aftercare, CV support, interview coaching and practical job-transition assistance.
