What HR Problem Are You Carrying Into Friday?
Updated: 3 days ago
By Thursday, the week’s urgent business demands have usually taken most of your attention. An employee concern or difficult conversation may still be sitting on your list.
You know it needs attention. Finding the time—and knowing where to start—can be harder.
Identify what is holding you back
Perhaps you need more information. Perhaps a manager needs support. Or perhaps you are worried about saying the wrong thing.
Naming the obstacle helps you decide what support would be useful.
A concern about workload may need a conversation about priorities. An absence issue may need a sensitive discussion about support. A complaint may need careful fact-finding before anyone reaches a conclusion.
Take one manageable step
You do not need to resolve every people issue before Friday. Start by making the next step clear.
Write down what has happened, what you know and what remains uncertain. Consider who needs to be involved and whether anyone needs immediate support. Give the matter time in your diary rather than leaving it on a growing list.
Keep an open mind: your first understanding of the situation may change when you hear from those involved.
